My husband and I finally took a trip together in September 2003 to celebrate our birthdays. I looked at dozens of possible places to stay and chose the Ohana East. Little did I know what arriving during "Aloha Days" was going to be like, but we both managed to find the energy to emerse ourselves in the celebration even after a very exahusting trip from Alaska. When we arrived at the hotel we discovered they were fully booked, so our room the first night was not the best. The staff at the front desk were very gracious and arranged to relocate us the next day. From then on, we truly felt the "Aloha" of the island. Being relocatd to Room 1700, I felt like I was transported. Even though the hotel is undergoing renovations, none of that hampered our experience. The room was amazing, one of the few with a double lanai! The staff were all fabulous too. Houskeeping brought me extra hangers and kept the room nicely cleaned every day. I used the exercise facilities daily and my only concern was that I thought there should be more air flow. We had such a good experience at the Ohana East that when an unexpected opportunity arose in November for us to return, we chose to stay at the Ohana East again. Although I booked the room on-line, I called the hotel directly and arranged to reserve our same room, #1700. The staff not only remembered who we were, but they really treated us exceptionally well on our return visit. The hotel is in a very convenient location, has great security and a fabulous staff. I even discovered there is a grocery store right around the corner - not just an ABC store, but a real grocery store! So for those of you who might be making their first trip to Hawaii, try the Ohana East. Just please don't book up Room 1700 during the 3rd week of September... my husband and I want to go back every year!
