I heard that Hawaii was special but I had no idea how terrific it really is. My wife and I spent our 15 anniversary at the Sheraton Maui. We had a ocean view suite that had a spectacular view of the water. We especially enjoyed the location and the grounds of the Sheraton. The Sheraton is located right next to Black Rock which is the quieter part of Kaanapali. Also Black Rock is a great place for snorkeling. Each day we would rise and walk along the boardwalk to the Whaler Shopping Center for breakfast. What a great way to start the day. We are already planning our 25th anniversary back at the Sheraton.

AWESOME VACATION!!
We just returned from 8 glorious days in Maui. We absolutely loved the Sheraton. We were upgraded to an deluxe ocean view room. Everything we had hoped for happened. I couldn't believe how smoothly all was. The people at the Sheraton are very nice. We were traveling with our four kids, ages 11, 9, 7 and 5. Also, my in-laws were with us. The staff seemed extremely patient with all kids. Since everything is very open, birds were frequent visitors during breakfast. The kids loved tossing them bread and were never once fussed at. Oh, by the way, the breakfast buffet was great. It was a full breakfast with eggs, bacon, a chef making omlettes with a huge variety of fixings! Tons of food: breads, fruits, cereals. The apples wrapped in pancakes was yummy! They alternated that with french toast which my son loved. The beach is beautiful and so was the view. We loved being so close to Lahaina. If I had to complain, it would be that no one, including the manager seemed to know where kids ate free. We found that a little frustrating since they really boast that kids 12 and under eat free. We were told it was at the Japanese restaurant only to find out later (after dinner) that that was not true. Finally, we learned that Keke's Terrace, the main dining room, is the only location at the Sheraton where kids actually eat free. There was a restaurant at the Kapalua Beach Hotel where the kids could eat free. Oh, the Japanese restaurant wasn't that great. The chef was awesome, he put on a great show for the kids and was really funny. However, he was having to run all over the place as our waiter, also. We felt sorry for him. The food was okay. We loved the stay and play at all four starwood resorts feature. We did visit the Westin to go on there big slide. It was fun but we did like the Sheraton pool better. The Sheraton pool was awesome. We felt really comfortable letting our two older boys float around and explore all over the pool. Our daughters loved the small slide that was in our pool.
The first day we were there, we headed to the beach. Great beach!! The kids loved playing in the sand. Bring your own sand toys from home. They are way too expensive at the resorts ($10.00 for a bucket, 3 shovels, a small rake and about 5 molds). We passed on purchasing it at the resort. We did rent boogie boards and life jackets for the girls. It is really deep snorkeling at Black Rock. It was also pretty rought that day. Big, powerful waves. Once, you passed them thought it was good snorkeling. Everything was expensive. We went to Long's Pharmacy and bought inflatable life jackets, an intertube and a noodle. The kids loved the intertube!! Pack one from home, along with inflatable life jackets. We couldn't find sand toys at the stores. We ended up purchasing them at The Kapalua resort for $8.00. Cheaper then the Sheraton. We went to the Maui Dive shop in the Lahania Cannery Mall and rented a boogie board for the week and a vewing boogie board for our littlest. She loved it. We also snorkeled at Honolua Bay and Kapalua Bay. Kapalua was the best. You just take two steps anywhere and fall in and fish are everywhere. Lots of differnt kinds. It was awesome.
